A rare thought provoking documentary that restores our faith in humanity and challenges us to believe that it is possible to build a better world of peace and happiness.

This documentary film by the International Society for Ecology & Culture (ISEC) is about the worldwide movement for economic localization. The film features a chorus of voices calling for systemic economic change, including Vandana Shiva, David Korten, Michael Shuman, Richard Heinberg, Rob Hopkins, Juliet Schor, Zac Goldsmith, Bill McKibben, and Samdhong Rinpoche, the Prime Minister of Tibetʹs government in exile. The screening of this documentary is supported by the UTAS Film Society and is being screened as part of the inaugural Launceston Peace Festival.

Frackman tells the story of accidental activist Dayne Pratzky and his struggle against international gas companies.

Australia will soon become the world’s biggest gas exporter as more than 30,000 wells are sunk in the state of Queensland where Dayne lives, with many requiring controversial “fracking”.

He and his neighbours have unwittingly become the centre of a massive industrial landscape and they have no legal right to stop mining on their land.

Dayne embarks on a journey that transforms him from conservative pig-shooter to sophisticated global activist as the Frackman. He meets the people drawn into a battle that is crossing the ideological divide, bringing together a peculiar alliance of farmers, activists and political conservatives. Along the way Dayne encounters love, tragedy and triumph.

The Tasmanian booklet has been prepared by the Tasmanian Association for Hospice and Palliative Care and Sustainable Living Tasmania.

You are invited to attend the official launch of the Tasmanian Branch of the Australian Electric Vehicle Association by the Tasmanian Minister for Energy Matthew Groom. 

The launch will be part of a forum on Electric Vehicles in Tasmania. A proposal for a state-wide electric charger network for EVs will be presented. There will be an opportunity to discuss EVs with EV owners in a ‘Q&A’ panel. Their EVs will be on display at the State Cinema.
